How to use the Wordle solver
- Play your first guess in Wordle. A strong opener like RAISE, IRATE, ARISE works well. See our best Wordle starting words test.
- Copy it here. Type the same word, then tap each tile until the colours match your game. One tap makes it yellow, two taps make it green, and three taps make it grey again.
- Read the results. The list shows every word that still fits, with the most likely ones first. The tiles at the top show the guess that narrows things down fastest.
- Repeat. Add your next guess and its colours. Most games come down to one or two words by the third or fourth guess.
Wordle Finder: find words by letters
You can also use this tool as a plain Wordle word finder, even without a full game in front of you. To find words with a letter in a known spot, type any five-letter word that has that letter in the same spot and tap it green. For a letter that's in the word but not in that spot, tap it yellow. Grey letters are left out of every result. Mix them in up to six rows. For example, to find words that start with C and contain R but no S, L, A, T or E, use the "Try an example" button above. The finder searches all 14,855 accepted five-letter words and puts common, answer-like words first.
- Green = fixed letter: the letter must be in exactly that spot.
- Yellow = included letter: the letter must be in the word, but not in that spot.
- Grey = excluded letter: the letter isn't in the word (unless the same letter is green or yellow somewhere else in that guess).
Is using a Wordle cheat okay?
Wordle is a game you play for fun, so it's up to you. A solver like this doesn't change the game or show the answer on its own. It only lists the words that fit the clues you already earned, which is what you'd do with pen and paper. Many players use a Wordle cheat tool only to save a streak, or after they finish, to see what better guesses they could have made. If you want to keep it fair, try our today's Wordle hint page first. Its clues go step by step, and you can stop as soon as you see the word.
Wordle helper vs. hints: which should you use?
A solver is the strongest kind of help: it does the thinking for you. If you want to keep the "I solved it" feeling, try our today's Wordle hint page first. It gives you seven clues, from the word type up to a near-spoiler, so you only take as much help as you need. The solver is best when you are down to your last guesses and don't want to lose your streak.
Five-letter words for Wordle
This finder searches 14,855 five-letter words that Wordle accepts as guesses. Only a small share of them are ever answers: the game has used 1,922 different answers across 1,950 puzzles. That's why the solver ranks common, answer-like words first and pushes rare words like XYLYL down the list.
Five-letter words with the most common Wordle letters
These common words left the fewest possible answers after one guess when we tested them against every past answer. They make great first guesses:
RAISE · IRATE · ARISE · SNARE · CRATE · ALTER · TRACE · STARE · ALERT · SLATE · LATER · ATONE
Tips for finding the answer faster
- If more than about ten words are left, don't guess one of them. Pick a word that tests the letters that differ between them. The "best next guess" does this for you.
- For endings like _ATCH or _OUND, test several possible first letters in one guess.
- Remember that double letters exist. If the list is empty, check that you didn't mark a repeated letter grey by mistake.
Wordle solver FAQ
How does this Wordle solver work?
It checks your clues against 14,855 valid five-letter Wordle words. It keeps only the words that would give exactly the same colours for every guess you entered, and it follows the game's rules for repeated letters. Then it ranks the words that are left.
How is the best next guess chosen?
For every possible next word, the solver works out how it would split the remaining answers into groups by colour pattern. The word that makes the most groups is the best guess, because it tells you the most whatever the answer is. A "hard mode" pick is chosen only from words that could still be the answer.
Why are some words marked "past answer"?
Those words have already been a Wordle answer (we track all 1,950 puzzles up to yesterday). The NYT has reused some old answers since February 2026, so we still show them, but you can hide them with the toggle.
Does the solver show today's Wordle answer?
No. It only uses the clues you type, so it never spoils the puzzle on its own. If you want gentle help instead, open today's hints.
What is a Wordle finder?
A Wordle finder is a tool that lists five-letter words matching the letters you know: green letters in fixed spots, yellow letters somewhere else, and grey letters left out. This page works as a Wordle finder and a solver in one, and searches 14,855 accepted words.
Is using a Wordle solver cheating?
It depends on how you play. The tool only uses clues you already got from the game and never shows today's answer by itself. Many players see it as a helper for saving a streak. If you want less help, use our step-by-step hints instead.
Can I use this Wordle cheat tool on my phone?
Yes. The board, keyboard and results are built for phones, and after the first load the tool works offline.
Is this Wordle helper free?
Yes. It is free, there is no account, and after the page loads it runs completely in your browser, even offline.
Can I use it for hard mode?
Yes. Every word in the "possible answers" list fits all your clues, so each one is a legal hard-mode guess. Use the hard-mode pick shown under the best guess.
What about double letters?
The solver handles them the same way Wordle does. For example, if you guess a word with two Es and one turns yellow and one turns grey, it knows the answer has exactly one E.
Does it work for Wordle clones and other 5-letter games?
Yes, it works with any 5-letter game that uses green, yellow and grey tiles, but those games may use different word lists.
